Incident: Emergency Responder Training
Location: Newport Middle and High Schools
Date/Time: Tuesday, March 27 and Saturday, March 31, 2007
Details:
40 members from eight Lincoln County Law Enforcement and Fire Service agencies recently completed training on Explosive Device Recognition for First Responders. Sponsored by the Lincoln County School District, the training was provided by the Oregon State Police Bomb Squad.
The first two hours of training included classroom instruction on recognition of dangerous devices or items and how to deal with found items. Techniques for building searches were also presented. The second two hours dealt with the actual detonation of controlled devices at the police firearms range. This helps provide emergency first responders with the knowledge of what to look for or what to expect should there be an explosion.
Planning for this project started in October 2006. Funds to support this training were provided by Lincoln County School District through an Emergency Response Crisis Management grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools. Special thanks to the Oregon State Police, Mid Columbia Bus Company, Lincoln County Emergency Services and to Newport Middle and High Schools.
