MEDIA RELEASE 092507 @ 9:30 PM hours

Incident: Fight in Progress/Assault III Case: 07N-02376
Location: 100 blk NE Avery St.

Date/Time: 092507 @ 4:40 PM

Suspect: Michael Lee Partain, age 32
Robert Shea Grogan, age 18

Details: On 092507, at about 4:40 PM, Newport PD officers were dispatched to a reported fight in progress in the 100 blk of NE Avery St. Additional info was that both subjects were armed with knives. A nearby Lincoln County Sheriff's deputy responded and encountered both subjects in the parking lot of a nearby business. One of the subjects, later identified as Robert Shea Grogan of Newport ran from the deputy. Grogan was very intoxicated and fell in the parking lot and was detained by the deputy until more officers arrived.

Grogan suffered lacerations to his hands and one ear, but once he arrived at SPCH, he refused all medical treatment. Both Grogan and Michael Lee Partain of Newport were arrested on charges of Attempted Assault III, Disorderly Conduct and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. In addition, Grogan was also served with a Probation Violation detainer by his probation officer due to his intoxicated state. Both were lodged at the Lincoln County Jail.

Newport officers were also assisted at the scene by Parole and Probation officers with the Lincoln County Community Corrections Department.

Incident: Traffic Crash / DUII Case: 07N-02378

Location: 100 blk of SW 27th St South Beach, OR

Date/Time: 092507 @ 7:31 PM

Suspect: Chad Michael Mather, age 37 of Vancouver, WA

Details: On 092507, at about 7:31 PM, Newport PD officers were dispatched to a report of a traffic collision in the 100 blk of SW 27th St. Further info indicated that the vehicle had crashed into the side of a house. Upon arrival, officers found a 1995 Toyota 4Runner SUV high centered on a landscaping retaining wall and resting against the side of the home. Damage was limited to the retaining wall, steps, gutters and eves of the home.

Witnessed relayed to officers that the vehicle had been speeding in the area and driving carelessly on the nearby gravel roads at excessive speeds prior to loosing control and running into the side of the house. One of the occupants of the damaged house was home and witnessed the accident from her garden.

Arrested at the scene for DUII was Chad Mather of Vancouver, WA. He was lodged at the Lincoln County Jail, where he consented to the breath test with the results of .18% BAC.
