NPD MEDIA RELEASE       1-28-08  3:30 PM

Incident:       A Child Is Missing Program

Details:        The Newport Police Department is pleased to announce joining the “A Child Is Missing Alert” program.  In the first critical hours when a child is discovered to be missing, it is important to enlist as many eyes and ears as possible.  The A Child Is Missing Alert program utilizes a computerized network to telephonically canvass neighborhoods.

A phone message will be sent to all telephones within a selected geographical area asking residents to be on the look out for a missing person.  The area contacted depends on where the person is missing from, the time they have been missing, and other factors.

A Child Is Missing Alert is activated often before the Amber Alert (stranger abductions of children).  The Child is Missing Alert program is available to assist with all missing cases involving children and cases involving elderly (often with Alzheimer’s), mentally challenged or disabled individuals.

The A Child Is Missing Alert program is a non-profit organization offering free services to law enforcement agencies.
