Love, Serena Marteece, age 36 of Springfield,

Details: On June 19th at about 11:50 p.m., a Newport Police officer attempted to stop a 1996 Dodge Quad Cab pickup after observing it commit several traffic violations. The vehicle fled from the officer at a high rate of speed east bound on Hwy 20 toward Toledo. Newport officers were joined by Lincoln County deputies and troopers from the Oregon State Police. While pursing the vehicle, the occupants began throwing furniture and other items from the vehicle. The vehicle briefly left Hwy 20, turning north bound on Western Loop road. Another Newport officer attempted to get into position to deploy spike strips, at which time the suspect tried to intentionally ram the officer in his patrol car. The officer drove off the roadway and was able to avoid being struck. The pursuit continued onto Hwy 229 and then again onto Hwy 20, with the occupants continuing to throw items out of the vehicle into the path of the pursing police vehicles and other on-coming traffic. Toledo Police joined the pursuit and continued to assist as the pursuit proceeded at varying speeds on Hwy 20. The vehicle left Hwy 20 and continued north bound on Hayes Creek Road until the vehicle came to an abrupt stop at the dead end of an old logging road. Both occupants fled the vehicle on foot. Benton County deputies, including a K9 unit, responded to the remote location to help with the search. At about 1:00 a.m., the first suspect, Serena Love, was located in the brush by the Benton County deputy and his K9 partner. She was taken into custody on a felony, no-bail Lane County warrant that charged her with Parole Violation. At about 2:50 a.m. the vehicle’s driver, Carl Winslow, was located by the K9 unit and taken into custody, initially on a felony warrant from Lane County that charged him with Probation Violation.
Both suspects were lodged at the Lincoln County Jail without further incident. Winslow was charged with additional crimes of Attempt to Elude a Police Officer, Reckless Driving, Recklessly Endangering, Attempted Assault I and Offensive Littering, with a total bail set at $142,500.
