Suspect: Joseph Dunmire, DOB/06-03-64, Newport Resident
Details: On 02/15/07 at about 1230 hours, Newport Police Officer Jay Reynolds conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by Joseph Dunmire for a traffic violation. During the stop, Dunmire fled the scene on foot and ran into a nearby residence without permission from the home owner. Dunmire ran through the interior of the residence and exited the back door, running through neighboring yards and jumping over fences. Officers pursued Dunmire, and conducted an extensive search of the area. Dunmire was found hiding in a shed at a residence in the area of the original traffic stop. Dunmire was taken into custody without further incident. Dunmire was arrested for Burglary I, Burglary II, Attempt to Elude on Foot, Misdemeanor Driving While Suspended, and five arrest warrants. Dunmire was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail with a bail of $272,500.00. The Newport Police Department was assisted by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Oregon State Police, and Lincoln County Parole and Probation.
