Located Runaways

Location: Beverly Beach State Park

Date/Time: 03-09-07 @ 10:40 AM

Runaways: Samantha Lanning, 16 years of age, Florence, OR resident
Ashley Peters, 14 years of age, Springfield, OR resident
Jacob Surmeyer, 15 years of age, Grants Pass, OR resident

Arrested: Brandan Nelson, DOB/09-18-84, Transient
Amanda Harley, DOB/03-02-88, Transient

Details: On 02-27-07, Newport Police Officer Kraig Mitchell located Jessica Tucker in Newport, who was a listed runaway out of the Salem area. Officer Mitchell's investigation revealed that Brandan Nelson and Amanda Harley had assisted Tucker in running away. On 03-09-07, Newport Police Officer Jay Reynolds received information from the Oregon State Police that Nelson and Harley were at Beverly Beach State Park. Officer Reynolds and Troopers from the Newport State Police Office located Nelson and Harley at Beverly Beach State Park. The officers also located three juveniles in the company of Nelson and Harley. All juveniles were listed as Runaways. They were identified as Samantha Lanning, missing from Florence, OR; Ashley Peters, missing from Springfield, OR; and Jacob Surmeyer, missing from Grants Pass, OR. Surmeyer was also found to have a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. The juveniles were transported to the Lincoln County Juvenile Department in Newport where they were released. Officer Reynolds continued with Officer Mitchell's investigation and Nelson and Harley were arrested for Custodial Interference I (B-Felony). The Oregon State Police is continuing with the investigation.
