Incident: Disorderly Conduct 1st Degree Case: 07N-00541

Location: 322 NE Eads Street - Newport High School

Date/Time: March 12, 2007, 8:52 AM

Arrested: Jonathan Prentiss, 15 years (2-2-1992) of Newport
Disorderly Conduct in the 1st Degree

Details: Newport Officers were dispatched to the Newport High School in regards to a bomb threat written on a bathroom stall door. The threat read that a bomb would be placed in the Multi Purpose Room on "Friday". No specific date was given as to when the bomb would detonate or what "Friday" it would be placed in the Multi Purpose Room. School personnel were also not sure when the threat had been written on the bathroom stall door.

Newport Officers along with school personnel did a search of the Multi Purpose Room and the surrounding classrooms. Nothing out of the ordinary was found and an investigation as to who might have written the threat was initiated. The Vice Principal at Newport High School received information of a possible suspect, and questioned the student. Newport Police Officer Jerry Howe was advised and he responded back to the school to assist with the schools investigation. During the investigation Officer Howe learned that Prentiss was the one responsible for writing the threat on the bathroom stall door. He also learned that the threat had been written on Wednesday March 7, 2007.

Prentiss was arrested for Disorderly Conduct in the First Degree. He was transported to the Lincoln County Juvenile Detention Center where he was lodged. In 2005 the Oregon legislature added Disorderly Conduct in the First Degree to the Oregon Revised Statue. This law was enacted to specifically target these types of incidents at schools.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Officer Howe at 541-2656-4845.
