Incident: Vehicle vs. Bicyclist Traffic Crash Case: 07N-01140

Location: SE Douglas / E. Olive Street Newport, OR

Date/Time: 5/17/2007 @ 3:00 PM

Victim: Joshua Harris (9 Years old) - Newport Resident

Driver: Corban J. Edwards 1/23/88 530 SW Fall St Newport, OR

Details: Newport Police were dispatched to a Vehicle vs. Bicyclist traffic crash at the intersection of E Olive Street and SE Douglas Street. The Investigation revealed that a nine year old Newport resident (Harris) was riding his bicycle westbound on the sidewalk of E. Olive Street. As he entered the crosswalk on SE Douglas Street, he was struck by Edwards who was driving a 1992 Nissan Sentra. Edwards was traveling north on SE Douglas Street attempting to turn east onto Olive Street.

The boy was transported by PacWest Ambulance to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital for treatment of a laceration to his face and possible broken bones. Newport Police were assisted by members of the Newport Fire Department.

Edwards was cited for Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device, Driving While Suspended and Driving Uninsured with a total bail of $947.00. Edwards' vehicle was also impounded.
