Incident:             Traffic Crash / DUII Arrest               Case: 08N-01486

 

Location:            Hwy 101 / Yaquina Bay Bridge

 

Date/Time:            05-04-08 / 7:16 pm

 

Victim:                   Sylvia Maerz, Lincoln Beach Resident

 

Arrested:              Kathleen Lil Miller, 48 years of age, Waldport Resident

 

Details:                  On May 4, 2008 at about 7:16 pm, Newport Officers were dispatched to a reported traffic collision on Hwy 101 near the north end of the Yaquina Bay Bridge.  Upon arrival, officers found two vehicles blocking the highway.  Both vehicles had significant front-end damage.

 

Medical personnel from Newport Fire and Pac West Ambulance responded to render aid to the vehicle occupants.

 

The investigation revealed that Kathleen Miller was attempting to pull onto Hwy 101 and travel south from the north end of the bridge.  While doing so, she crossed the center line and crashed into a northbound vehicle being operated by Sylvia Maerz. Both Ms. Miller and Ms. Maerz were transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport

 

During the investigation, officers noticed Ms. Miller displayed signs of impairment.  Ms. Miller was arrested and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail for DUII, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, and Assault III.  Her bail was set at $47,500.00.
