The children’s mother was called to the scene and the two children were released to her.

The Newport Police Department would like to remind all parents and persons responsible for children that it is not safe to leave such young children in cars for any length of time, in particular when you leave the keys in the ignition and have other unsafe items in the vehicle with them.
