Incident: Detonated Explosive Device Case: 08N-01954

Location: 413 NW Hubert St.

Date/Time: 05/30/08 to 05/31/08 from 1:00 to1:15 p.m.

Victim: Ken Smith, Newport Resident

Details: Newport Police are investigating Criminal Mischief to a mailbox. Newport Officers were dispatched to 413 NW Hurbert Street. This was on a report of damage to a mailbox. The investigation revealed that an unknown person used a small device, similar to an “M-80”, and placed it in the mailbox. The device is known as a “Seal Bomb” which is used to scare away seals. The mailbox was a total loss due to the explosion. No one was injured in the incident.
