Suspect: William Vincent Hahn, 18 years of age, Newport Resident
Details: On 06-13-08 at about 5:20 a.m., Newport Officers responded to a reported assault that occurred at South Beach State Park inside a park yurt. Upon arrival, Officers found several subjects had surrounded the suspect, later identified as William Hahn, who had blood on himself and his clothing. Hahn was detained while Officers investigated the incident.
The investigation showed that Hahn went to the park to look for the victim, his ex-girlfriend. Hahn forced entry into a State Park yurt, where he found the victim. Hahn attacked the victim by assaulting and strangling her. The victim attempted to escape; however Hahn grabbed her and dragged her to his vehicle and attempted to force her into his vehicle. With the assistance of a friend, the victim was able to run away from Hahn. The victim ran to a nearby campsite, where she waited for Police arrival.
Hahn was taken into custody and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on charges of Burglary I, Assault II, Kidnapping I, Strangulation, Menacing, Criminal Mischief II, Reckless Endangering, and Disorderly Conduct with a bail of $282,500.00.
